For over 50 years, the New York Film Festival has been one of the Big Apple’s premier events for all things silver screen, and the 2014 event is certainly no different.

The NYFF’s big draws this year are sure to please avid movie buffs. Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck, Neil Patrick Harris and others, is the latest from David Fincher (The Social Network, Fight Club). The world premiere will open the New York Film Festival.

The esteemed Centrepiece selection, meanwhile, will be Inherent Vice, the latest venture from director Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master, There Will Be Blood) that stars Joaquin Phoenix as well as Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon and Benicio Del Toro.

Looking for something a little less serious? Check out the 30th anniversary screening of Rob Reiner’s hilarious mockumentary This is Spinal Tap, which will include an appearance by star/writer Christopher Guest.

But there’s more to NYFF than just big-name screenings. From smaller documentaries to short films, animated features, and artistic projections, the New York Film Festival draws filmmakers from all genres. Many will be on hand to deliver/facilitate talks, Q&As, workshops and much more.

Feeling like a change of pace from film? Whether you’re a baseball fan, enjoy the world’s best shopping, or prefer to see some live theater, music or art galleries, New York is the place to be. Check out one of Manhattan’s esteemed eateries (where you might catch a glimpse of celebs in town for the fest) or grab a cocktail at one of the city’s thrilling nightclubs or relaxed-chic lounges.
